Updated: May 19, 2023

Yakima, Washington, May 19, 2023 The Washington State Bar Association recently presented Tamerton “Tammy” Granados with the Local Hero Award in recognition of her exceptional commitment to serving immigrant families in the Yakima area.

“I’ve had the honor of serving with her the last couple of years on the Yakima Volunteer Attorney Services Board of Directors,” said WSBA President Daniel Clark. “She exemplifies what we mean when we speak of WSBA members giving back to our community, service to the public, and providing meaningful access to justice. Congratulations, Tammy.”

The Local Hero Award is presented to those who have made noteworthy contributions to their communities. The award was presented during the Board of Governors visit to Yakima on May 19, 2023. She was nominated by the Yakima County Bar Association.

Local Hero Tamerton Granados

Granados is a practicing attorney and partner at Stevens & Granados, PLLC, in Yakima. According to Yakima County Bar Association President Ryan D. Griffee, Granados has distinguished herself in her community through her pro bono work and by representing newly immigrated families and those seeking naturalization in her community. In fact, Griffee said, she reported providing more than 200 hours of pro bono representation in 2021-2022.

“Tammy and her legal team focus pro bono efforts around aiding survivors of domestic violence and citizenship applicants. [She] has forged various pro bono partnerships over the years with organizations, including Heritage University, to create Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) clinics and contributes pro bono services to its students, La Casa Hogar, to provide clinics for DACA and citizenship applicants.”

Granados also worked with the Washington Army National Guard, consulting service members and their families, as well as representing direct referrals from Northwest Immigration Rights Project and Yakima County Volunteer Attorney Services, added Griffee, managing partner at Larson, Griffee & Pickett in Yakima. She has volunteered at legal clinics through American Immigration Lawyers Association, Washington New Americans, One America, Volunteer Attorney Services, La Casa Hogar, and Northwest Immigrant Rights Project.

Granados is a dedicated member of Yakima Southwest Rotary. She has volunteered for local nonprofit organizations, including the YWCA, Union Gospel Mission, Rod's House, and the West Valley School District. Granados also serves on the Board of Directors for Yakima County Volunteer Attorney Services, and she is a past board member of Yakima Southwest Rotary and La Casa Hogar.

She was honored as a 2022 Yakima County Volunteer of Year and a Paul Harris Fellow in 2019. Also in 2019, she received the Yakima Southwest Rotary George M. Martin Award and in 2017 the Delta Dental / La Casa Hogar Smile Maker Award. For years, she has maintained a prominent position on the Washington Supreme Court’s Pro Bono Publico Honor Roll. She is a graduate of the University of Washington and Gonzaga School of Law.

“[She] was raised in a family that prioritized community service,” Griffee said. “She strives to continue this tradition in her life, practice, and with her own family. “
