Proposed Advisory Opinions
Proposed Amendment to Advisory Opinion 1957. The WSBA Committee on Professional Ethics is considering an update to present WSBA Advisory Opinion 1957 that addresses whether a lawyer must open more than one trust account if the amount held for a given client exceeds the current FDIC/NCUA deposit insurance limit. Advisory Opinion 1957 was issued in 2001 and, with the passage of time, both the amount of deposit insurance and the rule cited in the opinion have changed.
The CPE invites comments on its discussion draft. Comments should be submitted by Sept. 30.
